just read on a random page some guy telling someone that blue lights are bad for cichlids? just got me thinking as i have a quad t5 marine lighting setup with two 10000k whites and two actinic blues....? prob a loada crap but thought i'd ask?

Prob a load of crap, but then again some species are more sensitive to light then others. Are we talking a actual blue light or acintic blue light? I'd hate to live under a blue light all day, the fish prob would too :P

It's not a problem as far as I know, I've done it before and know others who have. My frontosa looked especially cool in blue. That being said, I usually avoid it because the spectrum doesn't help me very much and seems to grow its own specific types of algae in my setups.

maybe for top dwelling species it could be less than ideal, but the deeper you go, the bluer the available light, because the longer wavelengths break up.
as far as actually harmful, as long as the UV isn't high, I doubt it.

I have Blue lights and full spectrum lights together on one of my 120's . I have s. Fryeri,Frontosa'a and Rhodesii in the tanks. The blue lights make the Blues in these fish "pop". I have not seen any adverse impacts.
