I bought the first one a few months ago. LFS said bleekeri but i’ve read enough to know it’s probably not. I bought the second one last month. I noticed that the first has relatively few spots while the second is covered in them. Are they the same fish? Same gender?

They are both Paratilapia, as to what species, or if they are different species from each other at this young age, its hard to tell.
Here is a pair of Paratilapia sp. "small spot", male in the foreground

Below Paratilapia sp Andapa soetimes called "large spot

As juvies any Paratilapia can be quite generic
