Are Burnt Driftwood Safe for Aquarium Use?

These were collected from an area that had a fire a few years ago. There are some charcoal on the driftwood. I removed off as much as I could. There are still some charcoal on the wood that I cannot get rid of completely. Is it safe for aquarium use? Here is a picture of the wood.

burns are pretty much pure carbon which is innert anyway so it should be perfectly fine.


nice looking pieces, flaws like those burns always make the peices look good.

I actually got mine from him as well. I assumed it was safe but was not 100% sure so I thought I asked before I killed my prized tiger scat. Thank you to those that have take the time to answer my question. Now I have to figure out a way how to wedge this piece into my 18"x12" openning tank.
 
the only thing is that it might turn your sand color. I put a piece in mine one time and I freaked out one day cause the sand started turning black.. the was after i had a fight with blue green algae.. thought it came back even after a full tank replacement.
