How picky of a fish is this? I'm sick of my Green Terror. He refuses to eat anything but one type of pellet. And his hunger strikes are becoming more frequent. I've heard other people report the same. It's driving me nuts!
Will herichthys carpintis eat? They're all over right now so it would be easy to trade for one. As long as he actually eats the food I give him.

well it really depend on your experience,i havent had any problems with cichlid not eating, cichlids are one of the most easiest to keep,i also like the texas cichlid, its very colorful,we breed it here with some flowerhorns for the flowerhorns to have those "pearls" that is found on texas

its funny you mention this b/c I have owned green terrors in the past and never had a problem.now the one I have is a picky s.o.b and barely eats.It was eating fine and got sick and then I nursed him back to health and ever since then he barely eats.its pissin me off.oh and no-texas will eat all the time.not really "texas"but carpintis is what I meant

i have owned 2 different carpintis, one i never saw eat from the surface but he still grew 3" and i had him for 8 months so he was eating something

the other however aggressivly contests with my oscar, jag and festea for food as soon as it hits the water, so i guess it depends on the individual fish and the tank conditions

use a high quality pellet as a staple and vary the rest of its diet

I have a cyano and he eats like a pig. anything I put in the tank. Wardley cichlid pellets and flakes, hikari gold, krill, you name it he eats. My festae (red terror) gets picky from time to time but always comes around

My carpintis has gotten pickier with age. I used to feed her cichlid sticks and NLS, but Ive switched the diet to Cichlid gold, dried krill, market shrimp, earthworms and mealworms. She used to eat anything Id put in there, but now, shes trying to hold out for the earthworms & krill. She wont touch anything else and gets MAD AS HELL at the other fish when they go to eat the other stuff. She'll chase them away from it when they try and eat it out of spite.:screwy:

yeah nor picky eaters at all just feed them a varied diet and regularly change it up. so they dont get used to one food then when you go to feed them something different it is weird and they dont eat it.
