Hi,

I have a tank with an Arowana. He has been good for the last couple of years. I just introduced a Catfish that I was given. They have behaved well.

My question: are catfish prone to disease? Do they get sick easily/often? Or, are they quite sturdy?

The reason is, my Arowana has not given me many issues but once or twice. He is bigger now, and I don't want to risk anything happening to him due to a new fish that might easily get sick. I assume Catfish are sturdy and don't get sick easily since they are bottom dwellers where all the bad stuff usually is.

Thanks.

Some species are alot harder to care for than others, but all new fish to be introduced should be quarantined first for the best preventative disease care mechanism. For the most part, if you keep the tank clean for the aro, and the catfish is from a place with the same temp, you should be just fine.
