I've been searching for info on channel cats and it seems that there isn't a whole lot out there. If I missed a thread I'm sorry I searched using all the key words I could think of. I would like to hear from anybody who keeps or has kept channel cats in their aquarium. How big they got, and how they did with other tankmates. Are they skittish or do they beg and react to you entering their vision?

I bought an albino channel cat quite a few years ago it was about 2 inchs long max..and in a little over year or so it got to be about 12-14 inches long just eye balling it and it really didn't show any signs of slowing down at that point but ended dup having to get rid of it ... ent rhough a divorce .. I do not know how big they can get in fish tanks but I would say they should be able to reach over 2 foot pretty easy

O and it was very inter active with me it let me hand feed it and it let me pet it ... I trained it to come up to the surface when ever I would ring a bell and it would come up everytime ,great fish , I have 2 right now in a indoor pond that I am growing up :-)

I personally think the reason whey people don't really talk about them that much is because of they are a common fish ... kinda like oscars some people love them (I do) but other people just not so much but to each their own :)

They are pretty common around here in our ponds and lakes, but until recently I don't remember ever seeing them in any of our LFSs. We have a store here and he has two albinos about 10 inches. I didn't ask what he wanted for them, I wasn't concerned because I didn't even think about bringing them home. After a couple of days I thought they might make a good addition to my pond after they get a little larger.

if it will fit in thier mouth they will eat it ... not to aggressive towards large fish ... but like i said if it is small it will fit in their mouth it will be gone.

Channel cats can reach over 3' in length, and really make good pets. they can be trained, show a diverse range of personalities, and are very hardy. They also eat a large range of foods. They are rather beefy fish, and require alot of room and excellent filtration. I have one in my tank that is about 12" now, about a year old. He's a little skittish, but is starting to grow out of it now. Very pretty fish, looks like a shark patrolling the tank. I've been working on training him to eat worms out of my hand, but my dang pumkinseed alway's snatches them before he gets there.
Any specific questions you have?

They are delicious....
