ok heres my situation....
180gal tank with few pices of driftwood, few under sand caves(pvc pipes), giant pirate ship, few plants...

have 5 clown loaches all about 3-4" long...
only ever seen 3 out at any given time so i thought lets find all make sure they all ok

removed all caves ...1 pops out
take ship out and examine all cavitities none in there
move all driftwood and still nothing (1 that came out of cave is gone now too)
substrate is sand ...would they bury themselves?
i :hearts: the idea of having clowns but i also like seeing my fish too....Darn magicians

i am positive that i checked all hiding spots and cant find any now .....
read they hide and appear outta nowhere but where is this no where
any ideas or is this just clowns normal thing....

:feedback:

I did the same thing once, I look over at some lava rock on my living room floor and see a little guy in one of the crevices.

2 clowns decided too come out and not hide so much anymore. Still 3 magicians hiding somewhere....thinking must be in pirate ship in the sidewalls, noticed there was opening in the bottom of ship...so im guessing they in there.

More the merrier! These guys get braver as their group gets bigger. When I had 6 (utmost least IMO) they hid allday till lights go out but, as I started getting more the more I seen them. Now I'm up 30+ and they do get scared a little when the lights go on but, they do get over and constantly search for food.

ive got 7 ranging from 3" to 7" and they are almost always out. they do however have a tendency to hide in the weirdest place such as in a treasure chest ornament :L

I agree. I started with 5 or 6 myself. As I added more, the couple shy ones from the initial few started to show themselves a lot more

Mine are usually out and about (have 8 of them).. but I moved my aquarium across the room this weekend & 6 of them totally disappeared while I was taking stuff out of it. Checked all decor and they were nowhere to be found, but they started showing up this morning. No clue where they went, little houdini's.
