I am intersted in cockatoos and was wondering if they are suitable community fish.

I love cockatoos, they are fiesty and can stand up to fish their own size that bug them and I have seen the occasional one nip fins on angels but I have kept them with giant danios, small balas, corys, clown and skunk loaches, larger tetras, dwarf gouramis, etc.

are we talking about apistogrammas here?

if so id say they make great community fish like all the dwarf cichlids. not to be kept male with male though or they will bicker in the tank. low PH is ideal too. ive can add platy, gold and opaline gourami a few mormyrid species and neons to guppys list

I like a tank that is 35g or bigger with 3 males and 5 females, the tank should have driftwood and plants, etc, to break it into 3 territories. The males squabble at the territorial edges and flare at each other a lot. They also try to herd the females into their territories, it is a fish soap opera, but I have never had any serious problems.
