are curved gills in arowanas really a threat?

i bought a 5 inch baby silver aro a month ago. when it got delivered i noticed its left gill was curved. just wanted to know how serious of a problem it is. are there any chances of getting cured by itself if i maintain healthy water parameters. is surgery the only option or there are some other medications possible.as you can see in the pictures the right gill is normal but the left is curved.

Looks like a full plate deformity, likely not serious , I've seen a couple wild fish do fine without gill plates
