So I think my dads firemouth may have the beginning signs of duck lips
And I need to know if it's contagious or not so I can either take him out of the tank or just leave him in the tank to die because duck lips is incurable

Thanks in advance.

I would take him out if he is for sure dying. don't know if its contagious but why risk the health of the other fish? quarantine it for a while at least imo

Ducklips is the acute form of Flexibactor columnaris, the bacteria is supposedly not virulent under 80'F.
I had a beani get it during last summers heat wave, it died in a few days, and its mate died a week later.

If you unplug heaters there is a slight chance, but doubtful. I would remove it to be on the safe side, do water changes, and clean filters, to protect others in the tank.
Other fish in my same line of my tanks didn't get it, but they are fish that normally live in warmer waters, and may be more naturally immune.

I'm sorry that your fish is sick. But I'm not gonna lie; I originally thought this post was in regards to how most chicks these days think it's "cute" to post pics of themselves with ducklips... back onto your topic, a chiller might even help, depending on what your temps are once the heaters are off. Hopefully you can save your fish, and keep the others from getting it.

What an ugly disease. Good luck...My pops lost 4 or so of his nicest fish when an acute form of this showed up in his tank.
