I believe that is why they aren't very hardy. Too many recessive genes.

This is a good question. I personally always thought they were a SECRET hybrid due to the weird shape and finnage. The finnage is what throws me off. Nothing like a normal JD's fins - they are soft, flowing.... just makes me wonder.
