i'm really looking into these guys, but are they really worth it? i mean, how easily do they die, and if they do die, is it worth it to replace them? i'm asking because everybody talks about how pretty they are, but hardly talks about anything else to do with them.:)

Is a $150,000 Ferrari worth it when you can buy a Z06 Vette that performs practically the same for $70,000? It is all a matter of personal opinion. Yes the ebjd's can be fragile, but so can angels, discus, etc. If that is what you want and you are able to take care of them, then they will be really nice when they get big, and you will be happy. By the way, if any of you are car nuts, I am not trying to start a war, LOL!

Are they worth it? It depends...

1) What are they WORTH? How good of a deal you are getting would be a big factor. Its one thing to pay $25 for a 1.5" fish that is fragile as hell and has a good chanceof just croaking one day before reaching full potential, and a completely different thing when you stumble upon an add on craigslist of some unsaspecting aquarist selling off fry from his blue JD parents for like $5 a pop

2) What are they worth TO YOU? Some people will pay $25 for a tiny super fragile fish, others will not. It depends solely on your taste, disire and your financial situation

3) Finally, are they worth IT? Why do you want this fish? is it because it looks good? Is it because it exhibits some interesting behavior not found in other species? Maybe you like a challenge of seeing if this fragile fish can survive under your care for years to come? Do you want to breed it for profit?

Let me just say that I have tried a BJD breeding project TWICE. This caused me to invest in a total of 10 fish, 6 of which came from Rapps. Total cost was something around $300. None ever reached breeding age except for one male who lasted almost a year and a half before expiring. I swore to myself that I will NEVER get involved with this fish, yet each tim I see blues at LFS I can't help but start figuring out how to swap my fish around to have a spare tank for these guys :shakehead

Bottom line: Is it worth it? Only you can tell :)

hey I have at least 5 posts and i cant make a thread , so if any one can help say so

dude, near the top of the screen is the button "Post New Thread" when you are at the page where you are looking at what thread you want to read. its in the same spot as the "post new reply" button

I love cars as much as anyone, but you missed my point. This site isn't for car talk, if you want to talk cars, email me.

I'll pick the regular JD over the EBJD any day. The EBJD is just too deformed looking, if I wanted a fish like that I'll rather go for BP:p . Just my personal opion.

BTW I was giving two 6-7" EBJD a few years ago, but never liked them so traded them in for some store credits:ROFL: . The weird thing I don't know how they got that big. Lady that gave them to me had them kept them in a crowded 75g with Angels, Jewel cichlids, pair of regular JDs(same size as the EBJD)and forgot what other fishes. Oh yea another thing water quality wasn't that cleaned

I think the key is getting ones that are not infested with internal parasites. When I used to buy them, they often would have white stringy poop, which is an indicator of parasites. I fed them spectrum with garlic and that usually cleared it up. I lost very few of them.
