i'm looking at getting festaes, hopefully a pair, to put in my 5' x 2.5' x 2'.

i already have plecos in the tank though. smallest is 6" and largest is 12". will they get picked on by festaes? i would be getting juvies and growing them up.

cheers

I have never had any problems between my festeas and plecos. And i have had quite a few festea with different plecos. I dont think you would have to worry about them.

I have a few plecos with my Festaes,Midas,RD,they don't both them. The only fish I ever had who killed a Pleco was one of my male Trimacs.....never a problem with any of my other fish,They actually just get out of the Plecos way.

no problems but my festae is only about 5 inches been together for months

i think 95% of cichlids are okay with plecos.

PLECOS LIKE TO POOOP!

plecos like to doo doo

haha tell me about it. they poo craploads (excuse the pun)
i've always had plecos in with my cichlids, except with my dovii. from what i've heard festaes can be quite aggressive (awesome :) ) so i wasn't sure if it was worth the risk.

ALSO - what is a good way to try choose a female when buying them. i've noticed that all the ones i have been looking at are around 1.5" and have alot of blue/green shimmer on their cheeks. isn't this a male only trait?

any info would be appreciated

cheers

yeah i figured it would be pot luck just wondering if anyone has tips to help in picking a female out of a bunch of them at that size. i'm gonna buy 10 and grow them up so hopefully i'll get a pair.

here is a couple of crappy pics (sorry for the quality)

do they look like true red terrors as i've heard they are often mistaken for mayans. the guy at the LFS hadn't even heard of mayans :)

i keep 4 juvies in with a bristlenose, they don't kill him but they've been nibbling on his fins.
