Are Flowerhorns notorious diggers?

Since I put these two Flowerhorns in my 400 gallon, I have holes all over the tank as deep as the tank itself. I watch the larger one just scoop up gravel and spit it out all night like he's burying bodies Goodfellas style. Are they mating? Or do they just do that instinctively?

They do this even if they are not interested in mating.

Mine only dig when breeding. There in a 300.125.90.and 75. Move the females out.

+1 take the females out...unless u want to try for fry then move them

I've had a solitary male and a solitary female in a 75 gallon, and they both dug like crazy.
