Some are at my lfs for 10.00...is this a good deal??

-Lockness

For large fry, maybe small juv. it would be a good deal...........larger anywhere from $20 for a couple inches to $100+ depending on size and quality........:D

Theres alot of different varieties of fronts even so 10 is decent even for a common 6 stripe youngster

Thanks guys,

What do they eat??

I bought one.

This is the very basic stuff you should know before you pick up a fish. You obviously had internet acces before you bought the fish, you could have very easily typed "frontosa" into a search engine.
Ah, here, I can do it for you. Google..."frontosa" and here's a quick rundown of what I got:

http://www.frontosa.com/
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c_frontosa.php
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/frontosa_corner.php
http://www.gcca.net/fom/Cyphotilapia_frontosa.htm
http://www.aquariacentral.com/articles/frontosa.shtml
http://www.cyphos.com/
http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/encyclopedia-372.html
http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/frontosa.htm
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/africanstangs/p/frontosa.htm
http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/cyphotilapia_frontosa.htm

...and that's just the first two pages. Apparently they average 14-16" and are carnivorous, eating meaty foods like pieces of fish, shellfish, and any tankmates that will fit in their mouth. Additionally they prefer to be in groups, need a large tank, come from very hard and alkaline water and there are 2 valid species and one undescribed of Cyphotilapia, C. gibberosa, C. frontosa and C. sp. North.

type frontosa in the MFK search and you will find a lot of info there as well.

Thanks for the info!

I also would like to know what other types of fronts look like and if any of them have four stripes??

Yes fronts get really large and have a lot of girth to them when they are fully grown. They will eat other fish but pellets are much healthier for them. Is it a good deal? possibly. It depends on the breed of front and health but for $10 its hard to go wrong. I also suggest a bigger tank that little fella wont be little when he gets grown up so save your pennies and get yourself a 55 or larger. Fronts are good in groups, but remember its either 1 or 5+ to a tank otherwise they can fight to the death. Good Luck with the fronts!
