Are Frontosas Harder to Strip?
I have probably stripped African cichlids over 250 times. From Yellow Labs to Tropheus to Cyprichromis to E. kilesa to Foai and so on. My experience with Frontosas is a little more limited - to maybe four times.
This last time when I stripped a wild caught Mpimbwe at 24 days, it took me three attempts to get fry out and even then I had to pry her mouth open four times after the first release to get 18 total fry out of her. The fry are all doing fine but I am looking for hints. With most African cichlids they usually spit a bunch the first attempt and the balance the second attempt. Some will spit on their own in the bucket after the first expulsion.
I let the female sit in the bucket for a couple of minutes between attempts. I did not want to unduly stress her out. Do I have fish that are extra good holders or are frontosas like this for the most part?
