Are Jag's and Oscar's compatable?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've kept a 12" Oscar, 15" Oscar, and 15" jag together in a 265 with no issues.

Should work, my oscar tries to sit on the jag whenever it tries to fight other fish, yet they have never fought each other. I would imagine it would depend on the size of your tank.

I have a 12" male jag, a 8" male jag and a 3" male (I think it's male) jag in with 2 Oscars about 6" to 7" in a 190. I have some other parachromis and other killers (11 big fishes total) in this same tank with no aggression problems to speak of. The biggest Oscar is pretty fond of the biggest jag and gets in his way quite often. The worst that ever happens from this is a gentle nudge by the jag to move him out of the way.

With that said, it largely depends on many factors as to whether or not these fishes can be compatible. Tank size, individual fish temperments, feeding schedule, cleaning schedule, lighting, hiding places, etc. are just a few that come to mind. It might also help to have other tankmates besides just a jag and an Oscar. If they were not very compatible, all the aggressor's energy would be focused on one fish, versus several with other tankmates.

Don't take this as advice, these are only my personal experiences.:D

I have the two together. They "wrestle", but never anything serious. They are in a 220.

I would say that they could i had an o an jag togather in a 180 til red devil decided he was not going to share with o no more.

Well do you guys think there is any chance I could make it work with an Oscar again? I tried an oscar once before, before I had a jag, but my devil mercelissly beat it, I had to get rid of the oscar to save it. That devil is still in there. Plus the jag now who gets along with the devil really well. Do you think the addition of another oscar would just result in the same beating? And if I put a bigger oscar in this time?
