The sunken eyes may be an exception rather than a norm. However, I have seen 2 unrelated sub-adults EBJDs developing this condition (one fish from my batch of breeders-to-be also had it). I have also seen a fish with a noticible overbite/jaw deformity. This probably results from the shortage of genetic material -- after all, all blue JDs currently in the hobby seem to originate from a single parent with a ressesive gene. Deepending on how rare this condition is, chances are there is nothing that selective breeding can ackoplish.

:iagree: i personally have never seen this in a EBJD and it sounds like it is a gene passed down from one of the parents..........heres mine at a little over 7" by the way.........

Wow! Sweet looking fish! This actually proves me wrong, and its a good thing... I guess bad genes are not the only thing to blame. Perhaps I was doing something wrong with my fish... Still does not explain why none of their tankmates were ever affected

thanks......well did you get your EBJD from a different store then your other fish? the treatment and care for this fish prior to your ownership could have effected it too.......

Yes they did come from different sources. Like I said before, the first batch of 6 came from J. Rapps and all have perrished one by one over a course of a few months. I doubt that it was a matter of unhealthy stock or poor maintenance prior to me owning them. The other specimen was purchased as a tiny fry from a local store. He lasted about a year or so growing from less than an inch to about 4" or so.

Actually looking at your fish, I am drolling here and can't help but to think of trying it again
