I have a 150 gallon tank and already have a fluval fx5, I want to know if the lifegard triple module chemical and mechanical filters are good. If not what filter would be a good filter with a fx5. Are they any good? What type of pump do you use with them? Would you suggest another type of filter than this? Better to ask before I buy it.

The lifeguards are OK. I have had to send one back becuase sometimes they overglue the fittings so if you can buy it locally you are btter off. Also, they are a pain in the but to clean wet so get an extra cartrige that way you can slap a new one in and let the removed on dry for a few days. Also, they tend to overflow during cleaning. To fix this I put a rubber threaded bushing into the bottom so I could drain it before cleaning.

As far as doing their job of removing what it should, they do a very good job of that. But, I think that would depend more on the crystals you charge into the canister.

Also, the triples are very tall so make sure it fits wehre you want to put it.

The mechanical ones do a good job too. But, the pleat is a major pain in the but install. That is the one thing I dreaded about cleaning my tank.
