Are Little Giant Pumps any good?

Im looking at the Quarium Series 4-MDQX @ 1200 GPH for $154.99.

Anyone have Little Giant Pumps? Are they quiet? Reliable?

Ive been recommended Reeflo, but I just dont have the extra $100 to get it so I need an alternative. I have a quiet one 6000 right now but it burned out on me and I need something a little better I think.

I had 3MDXQSC and that model you listed. the one your lookin at ran strong...no doubt good pumps! somewhat quiet but not an irking noise

Would you think it would be sufficient for a 265 gallon tank?

what do you plan to stock the tank with? only reason I got rid of both pumps is because i got rid of both sumps as well. changed my filter because I dotn have those cabinet stand anymore. & to answer yoru question it should suffice as long as you dont overstock heavily.

I have everything that will be in the tank now and Ill only be thinning out the population as they get bigger. The list is over there to the left under my avatar under "My Tank Setup".

I run a Quiet One 6000 right now which is about 1000 GPH at a 5 ft head, so I dont think the Little Giant could be worse.

Are they quiet?

yeah if you want a dead silent one little giant isnt the one..but it really isnt that bad.. Ive had it running in my old apt living room and I dont recall any disturbance from it

Ok, thanks for the info. I was looking at the coralife 1270 which is 1268 GPH at 0 head. Is it the last in your list of recommendations?

LITTLE GIANT FTW.

I love these pump cheap, pretty quite, and strong. I bought a PES-800-PW little giant for my dual in wall planted tank, the pump its self is almost silent. I am buying a PES-1000-PW for my 265G with a 55G sump 1200GPH at 5' head and the pump is only $90.00.

They are really easy to service, the only thing I don't like is the ceramic shaft on the impeller. I took out the impeller and dropped it 2 feet down to a concret floor and watch it shatter. Of course I didn't have a new pump and it was 12 midnight I was worried for my fish and had to ghetto rigg the pump. The pump ran for months rigged up until I bought a new shaft, I saw not reduction in flow with it rigged up.

I've used LG pumps on a lot of my 'smaller' tanks. They run forever.
