I have 2 6" Common Plecos in my 75g tank, I've had one for a couple years and the other was given to me by a friend who was running out of room and needed a home for it. He also has had his a couple years. They are both about the same size @ 6" and I didn't think anything of putting 2 in the same tank. I have lots of driftwood and hiding places for them. However one (Not sure which, can't tell them apart now) was out cruising and I noticed what looked like a little scrape on his/her back. I've added some Pimafix and it's looking better now but I'm not sure what caused it. I have done a little reading and it seems that they can be territorial, never would have thought as lazy as they are. I've seen them both in the same spot just last night though but one kind of threw a tantrum and the other went to a different spot. I know eventually they'll need a bigger tank but for now they have plenty of room space wise but not sure territory wise after what I've read, thoughts?

Yeah they get themselves into scraps now and again. Might have caught itself on the bogwood too, could be anything. 6" doesn't sound too big for a couple of years, what are you feeding them?

Well maybe closer to 1.5 yrs (Not exactly sure) but as for food just whatever is leftover from the fish, algae wafers, and natural algae in the tank. I tried putting some greens in a couple times but they never got touched. I have read Cucumber and Zucchini are liked after reading up on Plecos some recently so I am going to get them some soon. I saw them together today just hanging around so maybe it was just a little scrap or he could have scraped himself on wood, thats another thought. It's all healed up though from what I could tell. I measured one and it was 6.4", he was right on the glass so thats 100% accurate for once. :)

The one was pretty skinny when I got it though, it's filled out now. He/She went nuts the first day munching everything in site. I read that the fat deposits behind the eyes should be smooth or raised to indicate adequate nutrition, if it's indented they are starved. From what I can tell they are smooth, so I hope they are ok. I have at least a dozen different different fish foods, I try to spoil them and keep them happy.

Check out the dietry sticky, your fish will likely be Pterygoplichthys for reference.

I have 4 assorted 'common' species in a tank together. 4" to 10".

There is an occasional bit of a scuffle, usually over food or a cave. The biggest pleco (a sailfin) is not the domminant one. He gets bossed about by a smaller L001, but there have not been any serious issues. The occasional scratch or ripped fin that heals quickly.

Once they work out a pecking order they dont seem to waste much effort fighting :)

Just make sure there is plenty of hiding spots so every one has at least one.
