so within the past 3 days, my percula clown and one of my damsels decided it would be fun to swim up into the powerhead and get stuck. i found them and freed them, but it was too late, and they were dead by the time i got to them. so, are they just dumb or is there something im doing wrong? for more info, they are in a 30 gallon with live rock and 2 other damsels, along with about 4 hermits.

healthy, normal fish shouldn't be running into powerheads

4 damsels in a small tank is sort of asking for trouble

Your fish are not dumb. There is no clownfish or damnsel education that teaches that if you are ever caught to stay away from powerheads. What has probably happened is that your fish got curious about a dark area and went in to investigate and well....enough said.

Covering the intake with a mesh will help avoid this issue. Now you know what the issue is and now you need to resolve it.

You were playing Finding Nemo... and they got inspired to up into the powerhead to stop the flow of water.
