Are my photos too dark?

Hi all - I was talking to someone today on the net regarding my photos and he said they all looked too dark. Now a few people on this forum have also said something similar to me, but some people have not said anything. Im looking through my advanced display settings (in "colour") at the moment for my LCD on the lap top and the gamma setting is at 1.0 (default)? Is this right? If i drop the gamma to 0.5 everything gets quite dark and my photos look dark. Could this be a factor in my post processing so that i am processing all my shots on a monitor with high gamma that is incorrectly calibrated. Is 1.0 too much?

I wouldn't say so, some of them might benefit of a little more exposure, and some might benefit a little less. Most of them are good though
