Hey i have 3 red bellied piranhas that i have had since they were 1/2". they are now 6-7 inches and 2 years old. I think two of them have paired off since they are on one side of the tank and they always chase the other to the other side. i have them in a 65 gallon tank of aquarium gravel for about a year now. i was just wondering if they could mate and if they will mate. thanks.

They could and may but there are no guarantees there are no ways to tell if u have male or females and sometimes the same sex will act as if they are spawning....

possible but can't be sure until they mated. at 2 years old they should be mature enough to mate but I would think they should be bigger than 6-7" at 2 years of age.
give them a big healthy meal and do a water change later with cooler water see if that will trigger them. when they are ready to mate their color should darken up and start building a nest to lay their eggs.
like Shawn said you can't really tell if they are male and female so you'll just have to keep your fingers crossed.

thanks ill try and go get some feeder fish maybe to get them in the mood and do a cooler water change.

Females will have fatter bellies than the thin males. Males will dig a hole with his mouth, blowing in the gravel vertically. After spawning male will fan the nest. Careful what you wish for! If they start spawning they probably won't quit.
