my 2 uaru are lip locking and dancing around. facing each other while sinking and swimming up the tank. one will nudge the others side acting all dominant and then the roles will reverse and the other will do the same.
then one chases my loaches away from that spot in the tank. and then one uaru chases the other but no actual damaging aggression and then its all over and they sit together in a corner of the tank.
i will get a vid when/if they do it next.
any insight guys??

thats what i thought but i thought @4" they were still too young. will keep watching and hoping :D

Most likley just a small arguement. which will keep going on now and again. I had two that would also do that, until i added more uaru. There are many reasons that more than 3 uaru should be kept. The more there are, the more stable the colony will be. although there will always be small arguements like your having. There cichlids and have a territorial nature, just not as bad as most other cichlids. The smallest i have heard uaru spawning at was 6-7 inches. At 4 inches, there not at sexual maturity just yet. Could just be two males bickering.

thanks for helping. i know their aggression isnt comparible to most cichlids thats why it was so confusing as to which it was. and the fact that one seemed dominant, then the other was dominant seemed strange. all fish i have had there was one dominant fish and there was no doubt about it, none of this switching back and forth.
hopefully adding 2 more uaru next week so i will see how that pans out.

i agree....

uaru will not become sexually mature for 12-18 months and a size much larger than 4"
