I occasionally eat a bluegill or bass out of my neighborhood lake, but some people have told me that fertilizer etc. can cause harm to my body. Accurate? Thanks.

It is true that run off from the neighborhood can contaminate the pond. As long as you limit your consumption and make sure the fish is fully cooked you should be ok. You can always test the water if your worried about it.

Yeah i wouldnt do that the word retention pond should trigger a few alarms but yeah wouldnt recomend it due to chemicals and heavy metals.

I ahve a 2.5 acre retention pond behind my house. Lots of bass, blue gill, and soem channel cats. I don't eat them as I see at least one oil slick a year as someone doesn't recycle their used car oil and just dump it down the sewer. The fish always look sick for a month after someone does that.
