Are oyster shells equivalent to ceramic biorings?

Hi all,

I refer to the above matter. it would surely be cheaper if oyster shells are equivalent to biorings. any thoughts? how bout pondmatrix?

Pondmatrix by seachem is the same as the regular matrix just pond matrix isnt crushed as small so it can handle alil more water flow. So yes pondmatrix is a good bio media.

And to answer your question, oyster shells are not equivalent to bio rings. They will grow bb on them but will also break down in time, a lot faster than biorings.

And oyster shell will buffer your ph pretty high...
