Are red snooks really aggresive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope. They don't have the mouth to be aggressive. They do, however, have the mouths to suck in anything that looks tasty. Mine is twice the size of everyone else, and he merely runs the others away, no aggression. Get them at a small, equal size, and you should have no problems.....and plan on a BIG tank.

as pdbrady said, they're not typically aggressive but they are very predatory and will eat anything they can fit in their mouth. they grow rather large, in the 16" or larger range so for a group of 4 you'll need a very big tank eventually.

However, even the most docile of cichlids will may become aggressive when they breed so if you wind up with 2 that pair off then you may have to remove the other 2. Just something to be prepared for.

I haven't seen any aggression in mine although I have seen 3 males housed together that are constantly fighting amongst themselves. They are near the 10" mark.

nope not aggressive but get big and have big mouths so tank mates my be eaten but not bullied

they can hols their own though, i have one at 7" and he gill flares and fends off a larger cuban and vieja

I had a really nice big male about 13" but it started to get aggressive toward my lei so I ditched it.

At the time the nearest MFKer was over 200 miles away from me so I wound up having to take it to the LFS for like $8 store credit.
