Are Redhead Cichlids Aggressive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 3 RH Tapajo in my 220g. There is some chasing of the smallest by the middle size one. I haven’t seen any aggression towards their other tank mates.

My experience with keeping them were mild aggressive towards their own among the group. Tankmates were Columbian Blue Tetra in my aquarium. Tetra with exception of Neon's, Corydora, Bristlenose would be great tankmates.
I'm not very familiar with Redhead Cichlids, so i wasn't sure if they were aggressive or not. If that is considered common knowledge in the fish forum, lol!

Aggression is always about tank size.
If your tank is perceived to be too small by the fish, they will be aggressive, if the fish are given enough space, they won't be.
Geophagus "sp Tapajos", are not usually considered aggressive, especially if kept in a shoal, i kept a group of 6 in a 125 gal, and even with tetras the size of Lemons, I had no aggression.
tlindsey, you must be psychic, Tapajos is not what comes to my mind when I read "redhead cichlid", to me that handle is usually associated with a number of Vieja species, such as the bifasciatus (below)
