Are Rope Fish Brackish?

No they are freshwater fish

Many references list ropefish as being FW and brackish, because they occur in both FW and lightly brackish environments in the Congo River system and delta. They don't require any salt, but have a fairly high tolerance for it. Thus, they will do just fine in pure FW and I wouldn't advise keeping them above SG 1.005 if you're planning to keep them in a brackish environment.
