Does anyone have any experience keeping royal knives? Are they typically more aggressive than clown knives? I have 4 knives; a royal, regular clown, a gold clown and a spotless knife I believe is a gold clown. I used to have the three larger ones in a 120 gallon. My regular clown is rather stupid and tended to be the one who was always picked on (parially because he is very annoying). However after moving to a new state, I put him in with my smaller gold clown. They get along fine. But I have realized that the royal knife is the aggressor even when she is not provoked. She goes through stages of peaceful and then aggressive where she seeks out the other fish and bites them for no apparent reason. I used to think she was just the dominant fish in the tank. But over time, I have realized she is actually just mean. Is this a species trait, or just a personality characteristic?

Not sure... My new large Royal is aggressive, and its in with my aros, which are 2" longer than it. It will attack them if they come into her territory, but otherwise she is pretty docile. What do you feed them? if you feed live feeders, this can contribute to more aggressive behavior. The one I got was fed goldfish at the LFS, and was aggressive from the day I got it, but I am going to try to work that out of her with market shrimp.
