I have two cockatiels together in a decent size cage, hand feed as chicks, are a breeding pair, they are beauts, but since they are going on nine years old i was wondering if there is a toy I can make them that can keep them entertained and last for longer than a month, the male(angel) really likes to chew the female(pearl)is more of a watcher put will aslo chew.

Just sick of buying bird toys for parrots that won't last a month with two cockatiels.

The toy needs to be something they will enjoy chewing but will last close to a year.

I don't take them out like i use to because they fo some reason as time has gone become skiddish, so i take them out when home along and dogs are put into the backyard, or they're second favorate is for me to play with them and then place they're cage outside and let them enjoy the outdoors in their cage, they're really skidish when outside out of their cage, I make sure they are in shade.

they also love it when i give them a bath with warm mist from a hand spritser. do he bath thing a few times a year.

A toy that last a year isnt very reasonable. Birds get bored very easily and need to have new toys very regularly or at least rotated. And if you dont get them out regularly then they will become skittish and will need to be worked with to get them hand tame again and even then they may not be since they are a pair and I would recommend giving them baths at least once a month and that would be the minimum. These are all some things that will make them alot happier.
And yes there are lots of ways you can do diy toys. you can weave paper or plastic straws through the bars for them to chew on. Wrap treats in paper and tie of the ends and hang them in the cage so they will have foraging chances with that. You could also make wood toys with dowel rods and popsicle sticks so you dont have to buy them all of the time. Hope this helped some.

thanks logan

they are still quite the social birds when it comes to me , they just dont like be moved about.
Ill increase the baths
