Depends on size of tank. If the tank is too small(in the fish's opinion) then there is nothing you can do. A tank too small becomes the aggressor's entire territory and aggression will not be solved.
I usually like to feed before I introduce, or during depending on species. A full belly and the food distraction can help with immediate aggression.
The best thing to do is to re-scape the tank. If you rearrange everything, the tank becomes new and old established territories dissapear. It can lead to a fight over a cave or paticular section, but you shouldn't have a vicious fight resulting from the indo protecting what he had already.
Another technique that I have used in certain tanks is stress. When my redbreast became dominant and over-aggressive, I threw him in a 5 gallon bucket. After 24 hours, the fish was stressed and a new sunny became dominant. Upon reintroduction, aggression was scattered, minor and not from the original problem fish. However, I think this will only work in certain tank set-ups, and success like I had is rare and dependent on the personalities of the fish.
I would NOT try to stress your dat. But a tank re-design is probably your best chance to introduce new fish.
