Just like the title says, anyone have any advice to give.

I will be fixing a 225 glass tank.

I know i have to clean off all silicone off the tank, I will be using acetone, belt sander, and a razor to take it off.

When i put the glass on, im gonna use a piece of plywood, and some weights to put additional pressure on the drying silicone/ and Glass.

what additional advice would you give me?

also im gonna use GE silcone 1 to glue it.

Bump
any tips will be helpful

When I repaired a tank I only glued one panel back on and all went swell. Don't know if you are reglueing the whole thing but the one piece of advice I can think of off the top of my head is keep the tank sitting as level as possible when you put the panels in and hold them with clamps perhaps. When we glued the one panel we had the idea that we would tip the tank on a 45 degree angle so that gravity would hold it in place and apply necessary pressure. This did not work because the weight of the glass caused it to bow in the middle which if left to cure like that would have been bad news bears. (walter mathow) Anyways so when you glue the panel on make sure its level and straight and use clamps or simliar item to hold it there while the silicone dries and cures. Also the best way to do the glue is in to sepearate shots. Glue the panels together and wait for them to dry. Then scape off the extra silicone that squeezes out of the joints. Then glue the whole inside secondary seems. good luck. K bye

A belt sander might be a little extreme for removing silicone. You'd risk sanding down the glass. Just cut the silicone off with the razor and clean it with the acetone.

bump,

ill just be replacing the back panel.

im surprised there is no sticky for fixing tanks
