I had years of very perplexing disputes about "descriptions" of things with hubby before the eye Dr diagnosed this. (I knew it!)
SO, with the sheer number of members here & the percentage of color blind *mostly men* in the general population, you ARE here!
Gotta wonder about all the "I don't understand why my fish are dying.. all my water tests are perfect" posts in fish forums!

God help the poor fish whose test strips are being used by someone in denial.

I'm not color blind but some of these test kits make me feel like I am. Especially the salicylate method for ammonia that goes by shades of green.

0.03 mg/L ammonia. Reagent blank (test performed on deionized water) is on the left, test sample on the right.

A couple days earlier. 0.05 mg/L this time.

I previously used Hach and LaMotte test kits that had color discs and other contraptions that made them better than color charts but it was still tough. In person, it's really hard for me to tell the difference between the reagent blanks and the samples pictured above. The difference is much more obvious in a digital photo.

@Paleo...: I'm freshwater. the LCD testers I saw, seem for marine parameters..all except ph and temp. Did I miss something?

@squint: ya, I'm feeling your pain! even lighting affects how the colors & shades appear to me. I'm not color blind like my hubby, but reading these tests really seems to be awful subjective. :-/

I hate trying to read the charts. I always take a pic n look at it after, because I can't tell between 40-120ppm nitrate lol. Ammonia n nitrite are always zero so it's easy

At last-someone who can relate to how I feel. I'm severely colour blind and was diagnosed with deuteranopia in 1990. Stopped me getting in the fire service, armed forces and Police here in the UK.
It causes great amusement with my kids when we play PS3 games as I can't differentiated colours on the screen on games like Call of Duty.
Test kits have always been a nightmare and I have to get the Wife to read them for me. I also have trouble in the summer telling if I'm tanned or burnt-I often think I've caught the sun and my Wife looks in horror and tells me I'm red as anything! It always amuses me that people often thin k I'm totally blind to red/green and therefore see no colour at all, not that I just see it a different colour to them

well my sight isn't as good as it used to be, and maybe that doesn't help with reading the charts.
I never would've thought about taking a pic & looking afterwards! cameras have color-tone differences too. but I cant even say how many times I'm walking from lights to windows trying to figure out what is correct, then it's Way past time. So I double-test and end up saying 'piss on it' & do a partial water change.
@robroy, I've been married 38 yrs to a color blind man!
He only got diagnosed a few yrs ago and we endured thousands of states of confusion about his answers to Q's like: (me driving around in car) "What color is the house I'm looking for?" him: "Well it's kind of a tannISH, greenISH." me: "There's nothing like that here." him: "well, maybe kind of a dirty redISH shade too.." me: (w/dead-blank eyes): "Tan & green & red are all totally DIFFERENT colors...there is no "-ish" to them. What's the house number?" him: " I dunno, John went to the store. Just go right past the house with the bueISH roof, it's right next door.." 10 minutes later, me: "There is nothing on this street with ANY of those colors, walk outside the #*^$#@ door so I can find you!" him: " Man, I dunno why you're making such a big deal out of this, I already described every house nearby and this is the only tannISH one on the whole street. Everybody is waiting for you. OK! I'm outside now. see me? I'm waving."
me: "Yeah. the house is yellow."

the only digital testers I can find really are for marine, except ph, which isn't a big issue to me. We'll just keep plugging along like usual. when in doubt do water changes, it keeps everything healthy, happy & growing.
LOVE MY HOSES!
