Hi guys,

I've been interested in birds of prey all my life, but in the last time this "interest" has almost grown into an addiction !
Sadly, I do absolutely utterly NOT have enough money(teenager) for this amazing hobby..
So now I wanted to ask if there are any falconers among us?If so, tell me something about you and your bird(s).. :)
Ben

I'd love to get into falconry but it is almost impossible in this state.

I'm not, but I would if I could. I don't have the money or property necessary to take care of properly a bird of prey. I will show you a pretty cool pic I took though. I live in the Bronx and while coming out of somebodies apartment I had just finished fixing their cable internet service I saw a bird of prey take down a pigeon. Happened just feet away from me in the projects in a very urban area with no wood's of expanse of nature any where near this group of low income buildings. Any one want to tell me what kind of bird it was? If you can tell by the pic that is it wasn't very clear as I was in a hurry to take the pic and it was on my cellphone.

That's the pigeon by the way hanging from his/her talons.

Looks like some type of hawk...There has been an influx of hawks down here in Philly over the past few years.

I worked in one of the central monitoring offices for the MTA and they had a video feed of a hawk nest at the top of the Whitestone Bridge. There's cameras all over the bridges and according to the guys that worked in there, that nest has been there for about 8 years now and the parents return yearly and raise up chicks.

Yeah,Liz posted something similar in the past, live webcam of a hawk's nest.I even posted a link of footage of a hawk in downtown Philly tearing apart a hapless pigeon on the roof of someone's car.

Sounds cool I would've liked to see the video, if you've got a link feel free to share. All I've got to say is thank god some of nature is adapting to city life. It would be a shame to lose such amazing animals due to our continuing encroachment on their habitats. They really are a thing of beauty, only other time I saw one up close was when one landed on my AC and nearly pulled it out of my window. I thought someone was trying to rip it out of my window when I went to check there was a Hawk slipping and sliding on it trying to keep his balance, those talons weren't helping him at that moment.lol! Ran to get my camera and when I came back was only able to get him flying away. To the OP I hope you don't consider this derailing your thread, if so let me know and I'll stop with my apologies.

Kolstix I bumped my hawk thread for you to check out.

Not personally but there is one who lives nearby me, he's nuts though (in a bad way). Not to say i hate birds of prey and those who raise them, just this particular guy
