Saw this "pike cichlid" which I believe is a belly crawler but I'm very green in the pike department. The store carries your basic cichlids that you'll find in any shop so I know it will be one of the more common pike. The pike is 3-4" and they are asking $14.99. Is this guy worth trying in my 125 with geo iporangensis, a heckelli, rotkeil, ebjd, and silver dollars or is it a disaster waiting to happen? Here are some low grade pics of the pike and I added a fts so that you can see where I want to keep the pike.

Thanks

Yes they are bellycrawlers. Really they best starter pike and they have the most personality. They think they are so tough and won't back down from a fight but they also aren't really aggressive. They should do well in ur tank.

I agree it should be fine in your tank. Probably just hang out in the driftwood until feeding time.

Are those the "common" pike cichlids, that 9 times out of 10 a fish labelled "pike cichlid" in a lfs is that species? Fairly plain gray with a blotchy black stripe down the side. Or is that something else

The 2 pikes u usually see listed as pike cichlids are the bellycrawler and sveni pike but both are awesome pike. I once bought 2 pikes labeled pike cichlid and they were atabapo II pikes which I new because of this site. I payed $10 each. Both ended up dying during a power outtage. Most fish store don't know what they have when it comes to pikes

Thanks, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

If they have 2 get both. I think they are fun to watch in pairs whether males or females.

They only had 1 today but are getting 5-6 more Friday if the supplier still has them. If I decide to go back for a second will I be best off getting a second of the same sex as the first or getting the opposite sex?

Really up to u. I had two males once who claimed ends of a tank and met in the middle once in a while for show downs. Now I have a very nice female with nice reds in her fins
