on sunday I got some more cichlids. the guy said they were Kenyan Cichlids, but he had no idea what he was talking about. He was also swinging that net like a weapon! I so thought that he would kill them!

Anyways, I put them with my Yellow labs and I just wanted to know if they were compatible. They came from a tank with other yellows, but I've seen a Betta in with guppys before at Petsmart.

The Kenyans were kinda bullying the Yellows, but now they're getting along. I have been throwing in some carrot slices, peas, etc. and they seem to like them. but I don't know if they will eat crickets. can anyone help?

Ummmmmmm........ Not sure what a kenyan is?pics would help. but if it is a Kenyii, they are pretty darn aggressive. Quite some time ago i had some of these with a pair of yellow labs and a small pair of red zebras. The male kenyi kept everyone in corners. I did get one spawn from the yellows during this time, but you could tell they were not happy.

if you are talking about kenyi cichlids than no they are not compatible. They will most likely eventually kill your labs.

This seriously worries me.
I just bought 4 Kenyi, 2 Electric yellows, & 1 Albino Zebra from Petco yesterday (2-10-09) from their "Assorted Cichlids" tank I figured they would all get along since they came from the same tank.

Now that I have released them all into the tank today the kenyi seem to be ruling the roost!

should I separate them or are these an okay match?

A point to be made here is impulse buying has a price. It would make more sense to buy after asking these questions rather than buy and then ask in the midst of evolving carnage. Dontcha think?

Mine get along fine with everyone, maybe I'm just lucky...

:chillpill:

I live 80 miles from the nearest pet store (We are spread out here in N. Arizona.) so my choice is to have them shipped to me, and that has not been successful or a good experience. So I drive 80 miles into Utah and hope they have what I wanted when I get there.

I wanted to get all Electric Yellows but they only had the two so I bought all the others they had in the tank with the yellow labs to add a bit of color to my tank.

They are all getting along fine now I think it was just the new tank so they were trying to establish a pecking order.

They are all calmed down this morning.

See! Here is my Albino Red Top Zebra and he seems to be very happy.

Yes the tank was cycled and yes I let them all acclimate to the temperature and my water before adding them.:turtle:

Well, now the only problem with them is the kenyans (they are not kenyi, the tag at petsmart said kenyan) hog the food. But they were in with Yellows at the store but that doesn't really tell me anything the people there this time were total idiots.
and I want red zebra cichlids next, if that helps anything.

There is no cichlid called a kenyan. Maybe the tag was wrong or maybe you read it wrong?
