Among others in my 55, I have the following:

- A Red-Fin Borleyi
- An Electric Blue Hap Ahli
- Two Fuscos

Which of them will be too big for the 55 that they are currently in? They are 2" juvies right now, but I'm not against trading up if they are not right for this tank.

The fuscos should get to 12"+ and since a regular 55 is only 12" deep they would have trouble turning around. They would also just not have enough room to swim around comfortably.

The other two get to about 8"+ and I would again say will get to be too big. Yes, they could turn around a bit more comfortably, but the amount of swimming room just isn't much.

Overall, I would say at least a 125g for the fuscos sake.

Thanks. OK so let's say I upgrade to a 75 gallon, and lose the Fuscos (75 is my max upgrade). Are there any compatibility/temperament issues that stand out? I read your reply to my other thread on Mbuna/Hap/Peacock compatibility, but I also know that Electric Labs are uncharacteristically mild-mannered Mbuna.

When you say electric labs, I assume we mean yellow labs (Labidochromis caeruleus). Yes they are very mild-mannered and would probably do fine with peacocks, but different fish will have different personalities so while it is very, very unlikely you could get a mean yellow lab.

Without the fuscos there shouldn't be a problem with the borleyi and electric blue hap ahli. Don't know what else you are planning to stock though.

Sorry, that was a mistype. I meant Yellow Labs. I guess technically a common name is Electric Yellow Lab.

So far as what else may go in there, was considering either more Peacocks, Yellow Tail Acei, or Red Zebras. I'm close to max capacity, so I won't be able to add too many more. Anything else I get will be one per species to avoid any breeding aggression. The Labs can have at it if it works out.

You could get Acei right now for your 55 if your planning on upgrading to the 75 sometime, I mean seriously they are only 2'' fish right now and its going to take about a year until they will need a upgrade. Good luck with the tank and post pics some time :D

Agreed, fuscos are haps, so they will get too big for a 55g...the red fin borleyi and electric blues should work and get along
