Hey guys one question are neon tetras good feeders? I've heard that rosy reds are but im not sure. They are for my barracuda hujetas. Thanks.

I wouldn't think that neon tetra's are good feeders. Their a little on the expensive side for feeders IMO, and neon tetra's are the fish I most commonly see with ich in stores. I think Rosy Reds are a much better choice

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. But when i was looking up about caring for them it said neons but i think ill just skip that. Thank you.

if you want feeder about the size of neon, try guppies, they are extremely easy to breed and cheaper!

Yeah ive bread them before but i was jsut wondering to see if there were any other good feeders out there. Thanks though.

Rosy Reds are pretty much the worst kind of feeder you can use(second to Goldfish imo).

Actually, All live feeders(Fish wise) lack nutritional value.. However if you want easy to get feeders.. Try Convict cichlids.. its virtually impossible to not get them to spawn..

The problem with breeding convicts is that you need so much space and multiple tanks to get a descent enough supply of feeders. I tried it and it just wasn't worth the hassle. They take like 4 months to grow to a half respectable size and you need a separate tank for each spawning, otherwise the larger fry will eat or kill the smaller batch. I find it much easier to just get something like the rosy reds and have one small tank to quarantine them for a few weeks. During that time you can also feed them quality foods to help with the nutritional value.

So if feeders have no nutritional value, the fish would soon die since they aren't getting any nutrient intake?

If you have the convicts breed in the same tank as the rest of your fish (given a large enough tank obviously), they will eat the fry right away.
