the one with the stripes seems to be a kenyi the yellow one a low grade yellow lab, I say low grade since I dont see the black dorsal fins typical of the true electric yellow

Mbuna from Lake Malawai, are like cats. That you can get yellow, blue tabbies, and a calico all from the same litter.
If you really want a true to species fish, you have to spend the extra money, or see the fishes parents.

I think the poster was referring to cross-breeding resulting in hybrids.

Original kenei come in 2 colors. Males are yellow and the females are blue with black strips.
