So this kelberi just moved in last thursday (it's Tuesday evening here in MNL so it has been a good 5 days since he arrived).

I was just wondering if he's showing signs of stress with the solid horizontal line as seen in the photo. I also noticed that these bars are only present in some of my cichlas particularly on kelberis.

I know it will take him a few more days to settle in, but I just want to know for sure. He's eating well already, though. He can compete well with his 4 other cichla tankmates for food.

Any thoughts? I tried searching about stress bands here but the threads are not quite what I was looking for.

The first pic is him in my tank, and the second pic is from before we transferred him.

I believe when pbass get stressed they will lose their banding and color.

The horizontal line is seen in a few pbass. Not due to stresss but due to normal pattern.

Your kelberi looks like a xingu pbass.

I am no pbass expert but my thoughts and hope one of the pbass experts can help. Consider this a bump for you!

If it was really stressed its darken up a lot more. Bass can get mad and you'll see the bars really good. To me you don't have a kelberi. All them white dots in the first pic is usually something you see on Xingu's.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. I am really confused because almost all of the the Kelberis I've had showed bands like this one. So i wanted to know if this was normal for them.

I'm also really interested that you guys think he's a xingu. I think Xingus generally have thinner and less pronoucned vertical bars compared to this guy. LFS was pretty sure this is a Kelberi, too. Will try to get more pics later.
