Okay... i have 4 large parrots that are together in a community tank.. and i noticed 2 that have paired up and always protecting one corner, chasing other tank mates away, and trying to dig through the gravel to move it. They are also losing their vibrancy in color... looks like they have faded... Does that mean that they are ready to lay eggs soon??
Now... IF so and they breed and lay eggs, i know that the eggs won't hatch because the male is infertile. But i have a male Red Devil in another tank that i would like the female BP to breed with... but will this work?
If i take the female BP out of her current tank before she starts to lay eggs and put her in together with the RD in a seperate tank... will she still be in breeding mood and would still want breed with the RD?? Or will she not want to breed anymore in a new tank??? Please someone give me some advice if this would work.

they do sound like they are possibly trying to breed. with my own parrots i notice the female will darken to a darker red/orange then usual before laying eggs. i have also noticed that when my parrots are get real aggressive for whatever reason, they tend to lighten in color.

you could try her with the male rd. i must recommend you first have them divided, and not just throw her in there, and hope for the best. if she is filling with eggs then its only a matter of time before she lays with or without a partner.

i would imagine if you do take her out and divide her with the rd, then yes she will more then likely accept the new mate and lay some eggs for ya.

Thanks for the info fishfreak, i took your advice, so i took the female BP out and put her in the same tank with the 5.5" RD along with 2 other small bp's... But she is on one side of the divider by herself.
Im planning add the RD over to her side of the divider in a few days so they can really interact with one another. But do you think they will breed even though there are 2 other small bp's on the other side of the divider?

these other small ones are they with the rd now? how does the rd treat them?

Update! So i have transferred the RD over to the other side of the divider so he can be with the BP, and there has not been any real aggression, the bp seems a lil intimidated.. but thats it. Hopefully she will get use to him soon.
