Are these Texas old enough to breed?

Hey guys so a few days ago my male carpintis started getting real aggressive and his throat and stomach have turned a dark black color, hes chasing the female and other fish around quite a bit. Are these breeding colors? He's only 2.5 iches!! The female is the same size but doesnt show breeding interest. I didnt know they were ready to breed at such a young age, as the male has never displayed this black color.. How big does the female need tot be to breed? Here are pics, male and the female

Beautiful fish! I have a few around the same size. The female is a bit larger than the male and bullying him around at the moment. I would like to hear at what size they can breed as well

Are those pure Carpintis? My Escondido and Vontehillo babies were pairing up at 2 1/2 - 3 inches, they breed like convicts!
