So, every article I've read on the internet about wood collecting is meant for people who live in north America.
I live in Kuwait so I can't basically go to a river or creek to collect branches. Nor can I climb up the mountains and cut oak or whatever. So, what of these trees and leaves are safe to use in an aquarium?

- conocarpus (dry leaves and branches)

- jujube or buckthorn or Ziziphus spina-christi, has many names and every one translates differently, in arabic it's سدر (dry leaves and branches)

- Palm tree leaves and the thing that the dates grow on

Also, if you know another safe tree that grows in the middle east area I'll be thankful to hear from you.

If it's an evergreen then it's no good. If it has nuts, fruit, and usually had broad leaves which are shed in the winter then it's usually ok. I always boil my wood before putting it in an aquarium btw.

Evergreens are your pines/ firs. They have needles for leaves and keep them year round, unlike hardwood that shed thier leaves in the winter (Think Christmas trees are normally softwood Evergreens)

Dried palm leaves are ok(they will deteriorate with time so replace as needed),
If u find old acacias with no bark or thorns u can use these provided they have been dead awhile and have been boiled, when collecting dead wood it should be hard and firm, not crumbly or soft.
You can also used dead pieces of mesquite or eucalyptus trees.

Thanks, I don't think we have the crismas tree in kuwait anyway.

Thank you for replying. I'll try to translate them if figure out if they exist where I live. It's such a pain to translate species because we have local names and they are my only way to identify species. Thanks again for your time :)
