I have been told by other knowledgeable members both of these fish are loiselli. I'm still not 100% sure. For one, the coloration is definately different. This could be due to geographical differences.

The first fish (I'm convinced is a loiselli) has a base color that is bright yellow with a brighter yellow sheen . There is white along the belly, no white at all on the second fish. Color along the top of the body by the dorsal fin is pinkish. The color on the fins is just more yellow with darker spots with tinges of blue on the edges. The body shape on this one is becoming more elongated, sort of half way between the football shape of the second and the slender look of a jaguar.

This is Captain Awesome, 13"++ male loiselli...

The second has a more golden yellow base color with blue/green/aquamarine sheen. Check out the caudal spot near the tail, this color is very prevalent around all the black spots when he's under the lights. Color along the top of the body near the dorsal fin is more purplish. The color on this one's fins is more along the lines of the body color with tinges of red near the edges. The red color is not present whatsoever on the first fish. This one's body shape is noticeably more football shaped than the first.

This is the other male loiselli?/freddy?/?

And to confuse you further, here is the second fish the first night in the tank a long time ago. Note all the purple, there is zero purple in the first fish.

Like I said, I still go back and forth as to whether or not these are both loiselli. Different days give me different opinions. They have many similarities, but just as many differences. I'd like to hear experts weigh in again. Are the differences due to reasons of geography? Are these two fishes just two different races of loiselli? Or are they more different than that? Check out the true color descriptions in addition to the photos, it's hard to capture these with a camera (I'm no aquamojo, lol.).

I should probably add for clarity's sake that big male loiselli is currently in breeding dress. But, the differences in color aren't due to spawning. The other male in question has spawned with the female mota once or twice and his breeding dress colors didn't morph into the coloration of the first fish. Their respective coloration remains the same during periods of spawning and not spawning. It just gets more intense (brighter) during spawning.

How big is the second fish? My female loisellei had a similar color to that when I first got her at around 3".

The first fish is well over 13" and the second is an easy 12".

Hmmm.....I don't know what to tell you about the second fish. But the first one looks like a typical male Loisellei to me.

Yeah, the first is a 100% confirmed male loiselli. The second has been called a loiselli, but I'm just not so sure sometimes.
