I had left over fishing bait thought I had baby night crawlers that I know are fine... then I tore one up for the smaller fish and it had that smell and can't remember what there called red worms? Wigglers? Idk so many names but here's the pic I didn't just feed toxic worms did ?!

Red worms, nightcrawlers, any earthworm really is awesome fish food. I've used chopped nightcrawlers to get wild caught rays eating, datnoid eating, and when I've moved my aro and he goes on hunger strikes...earthworms save the day! Plus they make your fish grow super fast.

red wigglers are safe. They do however have a putrid smell and some fish will refuse them. They are easier to culture than canadian crawlers which need colder temperatures.

Eisenia fetida fetida derived from the latin word fetid meaning foul or unpleasant odor

That worm looks like a young brandling, sometimes called tiger worms. You can just make out the thin red bands, hence the tiger nickname. I feed them my fish all the time. If you cut them sometimes they release a yellow chemical, which is probably there to help deter predators. It does indeed smell and i'm guessing it doesn't taste right good either! I first noticed this as a young boy fishing. You'd hook them and the chemical would make your fingers smell. Chopped up and put in groundbait would always result in catching more fish, i'm guessing that the fish are attracted by the smell.

We get night crawlers from our back yard and I feed them to koi in the pond. I have a huge box of them that I do t want to go to waste, so I thought about freezing some(I.know, it sounds terrible). Has anyone trie this at you know if?
