I have recently bought two striped pike from a LFS, sadly the larger one died already -.-

The other one just sits on the bottom of the tank. He doesn't seem sick or anything, he comes out and eats when I feed him. Aside from that he doesn't do much. I asked my friend who also has one and he said his doesn't do that. I watched this fish for two weeks at the store before I bought them. They were always active and were swimming around. I do my water changes like I am supposed to. He's in there with an L52 pleco. Nothing else. I don't know what his deal is. Its just kind of boring looking and a empty tank. I've noticed he comes out at 4 or 5 in the morning (don't ask why I up) but aside from that he just hides. Any ideas?

What type of pike is it? If it's a belly crawler that's what they do.

According to what the tag said and I looked up pictures, its a Striped Pike. But like I said they weren't sitting on the bottom in the store

Maybe post a pic? Pikes do like to hide especially if it is small. Is it eating?

Im at school right now, Ill post a pic as soon as I get home. Yeah he is. He seems to like the massivor sinking pellets.

It can take a while for them to feel comfortable in a new tank. Maybe you could toss in a few peaceful tankmates to see if the pike's natural curiosity will draw it out to help compete for food. I myself got two 'striped' pikes from my LFS (only to find out they were sp. venezuela mind you) and they did the same thing until their natural urge to compete brought them out.

Peaceful tank mates? I rather not get something thats going to get to large, nor something that hes going to eat.

Your namesake severums work pretty well with pikes since they're only really aggressive when breeding and their compressed shape makes it hard for a pike to swallow one.
