I know that Venustus would generally be considered pretty aggressive compared to C. Borleyi but I'm just curious if anyone has had any personal experience keeping these two together and how it went. I want to try and do a breeding group of borleyi and a breeding group if Venustus in the same tank. Tank is a 75 gallon but within a year ill have a 125 or 150 gallon to move them into (just have to get the plumbing squared away in my basement where the tank would go)

I believe they will work fine. I think with room to breed and several fish to defer the aggression it should work. I have a lot of exp with boreyli and lost a small vensutus in my 125. It would help to have bigger boreyli but if you grow them out as babies, that should work also. I’ve found my Boreyli are more than able to handle aggressive fish. The bigger tank size will help with territories.

They should be OK. It really all depends on the attitude of teh Venustus. They can sometimes be aggressive.

yeah i understand, i've started acquiring groups of both species and they are all about 2.5-3inches. As they grow i'll remove males and hopefully end up with 1 male and 5+ females of each species. in the 6 foot tank, will the male borleyi still color up to full potential even in the presence of a male venustus?

mine still color up beautiful... and yes as i have told you before they are compatible... unless personality happens to be aggressive which can happen in any species.. no two are exactly alike

I have a 9" venustus male with two 7" females, and a pair of borleyi with the male being about 8". The male venustus is aggressive, but there is plenty of room in the 135G and they get along fine, no fin nipping, fighting, or anything like that at all.
