Ok its time to get my arowana off crickets. THats all this guy be eating. I'm thinkin about tryin to feed him worms you use for fishing bait. Not nightcrawlers but a smaller size earthworm. Is it ok to feed him this? Hopefully one day I can get him on pellets

Yes.. i also use worms from the local bait store, it is a money saver. I just dunk them in some water prior to feeding.

Be careful with that. If you're going to do it, don't do it for too long, as I don't imagine your arowana will get all its nutritional needs from a worm. They're mostly water, and have literally no calcium or keratin in them. They'd pretty much be just enough protein to keep him going.

May I ask why you're shifting him from one live food to another before pellets though? Would've thought you could just try to wean him onto pellets straight away?

Just train him to eat pellets. Aros can't get all the nutritional needs from just worms. They must have different varieties as well. Mine eats pellets-worms-live feeders-whitebaits-fillets.

I'm just tryin him to get crickets.. he still wont eat worms either. I try to drop it in front of him but he wont take it. He likes crickets cuz they move and float on top I guess. Guess I'm gonna have to shift him to frozen krill first becuz they float. Then try to get him to eat pellets. I guess I gotta starve him but I'm scared he's gonna get more subceptable to disease.

it would be safer if you gutload your crickets.. how about superworms? im currently breeding right now.. i just gutload them for it to be atleast a little safer.. lol

I feed the crickets carrots bfore I feed it to the aro. Superworms are no good either. They sink too quick. He likes top water food. Guess I'll keep him on carrot loaded crickets until I can get him on krill and pellets.

If he's still small then it's fine to feed him crickets, but as it gets bigger, it will need a lot of variety of foods to maintain it's daily nutritional needs.Better if you can get him to feed on pellets.
